Riding from Jaipur to Udaipur

Riding from Jaipur to Udaipur

Waking up in the morning, just before 5 AM, I found myself leaving Jaipur heading towards Udaipur.

The weather at the departure from Jaipur was so pleasant and cool that it was a joy to ride the motorcycle. The streets were nearly empty, and nothing was stopping us from continuing our journey. We were still in the Rajasthan desert and heading south towards Mumbai, but our plan was to go as far as possible. In the early hours of the morning, we covered a good distance as the streets were nearly empty with few cars.

Heading south, our first stop was in the town of Ajmer, where we stopped to have tea, which was very good, along with biscuits.

We were already accustomed to the motorcycle, and the journey was very comfortable. We didn’t feel stressed, and the heat had not yet set in, as it was still morning.

Continuing further after leaving Ajmer behind, we continued our journey until we felt hungry, so we decided to eat something.

As we rode, we looked for restaurants or other places to eat, but most of them were vegetarian and didn’t offer any meat options.

We stopped at a restaurant called Restaurant Bewar, where we ordered what we found to satisfy our hunger, but my girlfriend preferred fruits.

In this restaurant, we sat at a table in the shade and waited for the cook to prepare the food. While waiting, two young men who spoke English very well approached us and enjoyed communicating with us. At one point, one of them offered to pay for our food, but we refused. We exchanged Instagram accounts and talked about various things.

After eating, we continued our journey, but it was starting to get hot again.

Searching for a Place to Stop

It was around 11 AM, and the heat was starting to be felt again, so we began to look for a place to stop. As we rode along the road, we saw a cow drinking water under a tree, so we decided to stop there until the heat subsided. We parked our motorcycle and sat down by the tree.

The Deep Well and Water Pool

In that place, there was a deep well about 15 meters deep that had water. Farmers came there and pumped water, letting it form a pool where animals drank water. When a farmer came, he operated the pump, the pool filled with cold water, and the animals drank cold water. Many cows knew how to come by themselves to drink water. Every 20 minutes, cows came by themselves and drank water.

The Woman Farmer and Her Goats

There was a woman farmer who came with goats to give them water, and every 30-40 minutes she came back to give them water again. There wasn’t much grass because it was a desert; the goats ate dry grass and leaves wherever they found a tree or bush.

Villagers Fetching Water

People from the nearby village also came to fetch water; a woman from the village came to us with a bottle of water and gave us water to drink. She probably saw us there for several hours and that we weren’t leaving.

Resting Under the Tree

We sat under that tree where we could hear the birds chirping and tractors with traditional music passing by on the road. We admired all the animals that came to drink water, then it was time to move on because it was almost 5 PM, and the heat was starting to decrease.

Enduring the Extreme Heat

When we sat under the tree, the temperature was around 42 degrees at 1 PM, but we felt much hotter. That day, we managed to travel the entire route through the Rajasthan desert.

Stopping at a Small Town Shop

At one point, we stopped to buy water from a shop along our way in a small town, and there we had the idea to find some ropes to tie the third backpack, which we had together with the other two, so that my girlfriend wouldn’t have to carry it.

The Inconvenience of the Third Backpack

It was hot, and being stuck to us, that backpack containing only the documents from the motorcycle, a spark plug, and what we had put in it from the road made us even hotter; we also put fruits and water bottles.

The Shopkeeper’s Assistance

The shopkeeper offered to give us some thinner ropes, and so we managed to tie the third backpack together with the two that had clothes we didn’t use.

Arriving in Udaipur at Night

When we arrived in Udaipur, it was already dark, and I couldn’t see well because I was too tired. In a moment of carelessness, while climbing a slope at a fairly slow speed, my girlfriend dropped her glasses on the ground, and it was dark and there was traffic.

The Kindness of a Stranger

She was about to give up on them because someone had already run over them, but we pulled over, turned the motorcycle around, and a young boy who was riding a motorcycle behind us saw when they fell and picked them up from the ground, and when he saw us turning back, he gave them back to my girlfriend. Very nice of him.

The Importance of the Glasses

Firstly, they were very expensive glasses, and secondly, without glasses, the sun would destroy your eyes during the day.

Reaching the Hotel and Resting

After a long day on the motorcycle, we managed to reach our residential-style hotel in the center of Udaipur, being on a hill. We also had parking, and we slept very well until the next morning.

Reflecting on the Day’s Journey

On this day, I believe we covered the greatest distance of all our days because we woke up in the morning and everything went well. Together with my brave girlfriend, we managed to have a better day as we traveled through the scorching desert.

The next day, we woke up again before 5 AM and continued on towards Vadodara.

To be continued.
